13 Dec Cookie Friday: Candy Canes

These are an oldie from the recipe box!

 

I don’t like to play favorites when it comes to Holiday cookies, but… these are my favorite.

As a bonus, they don’t require eggs which is great with the chicken’s molting like there is no tomorrow. They are fun to make too as the dough whips up quick, you shape them into “J’s” and get to add the signature red and white glaze when they cool.

These are the cookies from the old family recipe box that I have always been assigned to bring to Christmas, which is great because I can double the batch and keep some just for me.

Cookie Friday: Candy Canes
 
Ingredients
  • 1 cup butter, room temperature
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 1⅓ cup confectioners sugar
  • 2 Tbs water
  • 2½ cups flour
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1½ cup quick oats
  • 1 cup confectioners sugar
  • ¼ cup water
Instructions
  1. Beat vanilla and sugar until creamy. Add sugar and water and mix. Add flour and salt and mix. Stir in oats.
  2. Shape into canes, place on an uncreased cookie sheet. Bake at 325 degrees for 20-25 minutes.
  3. Cool. Mix sugar and water to make glaze. Reserve ¼ of the mixture and dye with red food coloring. and then glaze like a candy cane.
